Hi All! Lately, I have been dreaming about past addictions. Mostly old eating disorder stuff, like I am starving and on a treadmill and can't get off no matter how hard I try and feel that I am going to pass out any moment, or alcohol related, like I grab a glass of wine and start drinking it, get totally wasted, and then think, "Oh my god, what have I just done?" Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any idea what it could mean?

Re: Dreaming about past addictions
Sat, December 11, 2004 - 9:35 PMI've never had dreams like this...do you feel like you're losing control over something in your (real) life? I used to see a therapist who did dream interpretation....they remind me of something he interpreted once that would have that type of a meaning. Just a thought....

Re: Dreaming about past addictions
Tue, January 25, 2005 - 5:09 PMit feels to me like you are in need of some spiritual nourishment........as opposed to transient pleasures.........if the addictions you spoke of are under control now in your waking life, perhaps the fundamental causes of them have not been properly addressed. the starving part is pretty self-explanatory......your body/SELF is craving food....most like on a spiritual level, and being stuck on a treadmill is equivalent to running in circles....your not getting anywhere. Wine can be an elixer of ecstasy as well as a barrier to freedom. in your dream you become aware that you are just feeding the hole with something that will not last.........that is not energetically compatible with the new cycle of your life. Sounds like you have a grasp of what you need to do in your life, but you havnt yet made the necessary moves to honor that awareness. Find something fullfilling and creative to express yourself in, and that may feed the whole and get you off the wheel.
just some ideas.
Good luck!

Re: Dreaming about past addictions
Wed, January 26, 2005 - 10:41 AMMy partner has been clean for 18 years from cocaine, but he still had dreams about people he respected offering him drugs. For years, he would grab the mirror in the dream, start snorting, and wake up the moment the drugs would have hit IRL. This went on for the first 5 years of our relationship, when he had been clean about 6 years.
At some point, however, he dreamed of Carlos Santana, one of his heros, lining out the drugs on the mirror. Carlos offered him the line, and my husband turned him down emphatically in the dream. Then he turned around and walked away from the mirror, his hero, and all of the cultural symbols surrounding him. He walked away thinking "never again." Then he woke up and immediately told me about the dream.
He said he knew that when he finally walked away from it in the dream that his addiction was over forever. Maybe that's what you need to do in these dreams if you can?
Just a thought,

Re: Dreaming about past addictions
Sun, June 19, 2005 - 5:18 AMHi! I'm new and will just jump in. I have worked as an addictions counselor in the past. This type of dream is very common! I've actually had clients ask for a drug test because they needed to be convinced that they had not actually used during one of these dreams. I am so glad Sienna posted what she did, because it is really powerful.
Could it be that some of your old "triggers" are present right now?
Take care of yourself. Many blessings!

Re: Dreaming about past addictions
Tue, December 6, 2005 - 8:44 AMI have dreamed that I was smoking again. I have COPD, and taking up that addiction again would kill me. In my own case, I've been depressed and I'm wondering if this is a subconscious desire to die? Since I've been on antidepressants, I haven't had the dream. Just my thoughts...
